Dr. Puerto has long had a passion for surgery. Dr.Puerto received his veterinary degree from Cornell University in 1993. He was in general practice for three years and his desire to pursue his passion led to a small animal internship and surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania. He became board certified in surgery in 2001 and stayed at the University as a staff surgeon until 2003. He joined CARES in 2004 as the first specialist and now works with a great team of clinicians.
Dr. Puerto has special interests in minimally invasive surgery, orthopedics, and reconstructive surgery. He has published numerous papers and book chapters. He is always available to answer questions and continues to enjoy teaching colleagues and interns at CARES. The best part of his job, though, is making a difference in the lives of the pets that give us unconditional love!
Dr. Puerto loves spending time with his family and pets. He enjoys being active with karate with the family, biking, running, skiing and horseback riding. The family menagerie includes two dogs, two cats and a flock of chickens.
He is available for consultations on Tuesday and Thursday and surgery on Wednesday and Friday.
